Here, we carry out campaigns to prioritize tobacco control within broader health and development agendas thereby overseeing outreach to sub-regional blocs including ECOWAS, WAEMU and COMESA. In addition to that, we assist countries to participate in global tobacco control campaigns and support all campaign activities within our priority countries. Activities under this component include:
- Coordinating development and implementation of a campaign strategy aimed at prioritizing tobacco control within broader health (HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis, and maternal and child health) programs and development agendas;
- Overseeing the development and dissemination of materials, which may include information on the linkages between tobacco production and consumption and the Millennium Development Goals, poverty, environmental degradation and other health issues?
- Monitoring and influencing relevant Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) and Common Market for East and Southern Africa),policies, laws and protocols that could help support provision of development funding for Tobacco Control in Africa;
- Planning and implementing a country level campaign to secure funding for tobacco control out of health and economic development assistance and poverty eradication programs;
- Coordinating and communicating with the diplomatic missions, Development agencies, UN agencies and international organizations locally and internationally to find support for development funding of Tobacco Control in Africa;
- Gathering information about existing global initiatives and partnerships aimed at non-communicable disease prevention.
